I like my new job, I guess.
It’s quite simple for now;
“Just mix the cement, nothing more.
Nothing more!”
Well, every day
I resume the same uniform.
and wear the same time.
The same shovel beats my back
and I wield the same sun
I mix the cement, nothing more.
Nothing more!
Well, most days …
But today,
there is something different.
Ajoke has returned to town.
Ha!. Ajoke òlówó síbí
Ajoke èléwà gànyìn
Ajoke òlólùfémì.
As beautiful as sunrise,
brighter than a sky of diamonds
is my Ajoke’s smile.
I have seen the world’s edges on a globe,
But I have found none
none as beautiful as Ajoke mi!
Before she knew right from wrong
She knew the spoon!
Before she knew how to eat,
She learned how to cook.
But Ajoke has chosen to not be mine!
And even now, she looks away
……………
far away, as she fills my plate with beans
Knowing she has to come back in the evening to collect her pay.
But I lose not hope
Things will change one day …
And so, I’ll focus on my new job.
Which is quite simple for now;
“Just mix the cement, nothing more.
Nothing more!”
Every day,
I’ll resume the same uniform.
and wear the same time.
The same shovel will beat my back
and I’ll wield the same sun
I will mix the cement, nothing more.
Nothing more!.
Well, most days …
This is lovely
Your words are art and they’re damn beautiful.
This is catchy! Loved it!
This is beautiful
Thank you.
I’m glad you like it.
