HIV !

Human Immuno Deficiency Virus

A very deadly virus we’ve been told about, that kills without a second glance.

When it graduates to AIDs
Anti Immumo Deficiency Syndrome.

They say it becomes deadlier than nikita’s blade.
At least that one if lucky we can recover from.
This, a one way ticket to meet the god of the underworld.
You will say I’m over exaggerating the Virus but isn’t that what we all do??

But in different glaring nigerian ways😂

It can be managed if found early but as of today, there is no cure.

We definitely know all the history about this virus how it came especially how it can be transmitted and all the every every.

You especially you know the way you look at the people you hear have it.

First, with a look of disgust on maybe it was harlotry or womanizing that got them there.
But the moment our civilsed mind kicks into play,we tend to look at them with PITY.

One look every human hates.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

A few years when i just got admitted into university,i stayed off campus for the first year due to the kolo kolo hostel system of our prestigious federal school.

In bids not to spend soo much on transport and somewhere open to public eyes,i rented a room at Mariam hostel.

The big pink 7 storey building stood directly opposite the gate of the university carrying a signboard on its head like a woman hawking oranges making the name “Mariam Hostel” visible to even the blindest of eyes.

The hassle and bustle of going through rooms to pick that perfect one was rather skipped due to the fact that they had only one vacant room that matched my budget and i just had to take it.

One single vacant room was eyed and preyed on like a fat ass dear who was about to be made dinner by a lion.

The day i finally got to my room i was faced with the biggest shock of my life.

Apart from the fact that after opening the door i was faced with two beds meaning i was meeting two people inside the room.

I was gonna be sharing the room with two freaking people and i paid that large amount of money for what privacy??!

“Sandra calm down, its just for a little while”,i told myself not knowing if i was gonna be able to hold it all in.

But i tried sha, entering the room with the biggest smile ever only to be welcome with two dead looking eyes staring back at me.

I jerked back thinking it was an actual dead body.
When the Ogbeni in me regained her consciousness i told the scary looking lady infront of me that i was Sandra and the wonderful response i got was dead silence😑😂😂

From the other hostel mates i found out that the other occupant had left that same morning angrily for no reason.

So which means I’m just down to one roomate😁

I was freaking happy…

After packing in and settling down something in me knew this was gonna be a long rideee and yes it was.

My inmate(sorry 😂😂)roommate’s name is Sylvia and this is kinda like her story.

But it took a while to find all this about her.

From getting insulted for any small thing to taking in her snubbish attitude as per me i’m a very nice going werey 😂 person.

When Sylvia and i met,my first view of her was a clear Psychopath, proud and egolistic with no emotional feelings.

You’d think i was talking about all those proud billionaires in books but she was worse😣

Or so i thought.

But rather she was a woman with a lot of emotions flowing through her like a raged river without course.

And the only way she could contain it was to die in silence.

Sylvia was a young, vibrant and lively youth everybody that knew her attested to it……But OMO it was hard to believe at first oo

Until i heard it from her sister.

She was like a sadist..anyways.

She was always the bubbling specie of the area and people she was around..until one day she lost the will.

One night we got into a heated argument,my mouths padlock decided to loose(i didn’t do it on purpose i swear)and she started to cry

Her large brown eyes began to swell up,her rosy cheecks became red and i could feel her nose flaring up in anger.
Her hearts rising and falling couldn’t even go unnoticed her quivering lips moved, telling me a very short sad story.

.
.
.
.
.
.
“3 years ago i was walking down the stairs of our rented apartment when Mr Suraja,a youth copper called me to come”.

“It wasn’t a new thing for us to help the copper lift his broken door before we were able to lock it. So with glee i went unto him”.

“While we lifted the door,he threw me glances and smiles that made my body uncomfortable and unpleasant but it was just to close the door na abi??,

ma de ma ba temi lo(then I’ll be on my way)”.

“Mr suraja told me to give him a minute that he forgot something inside i turned around to sit on the bench outside when i felt my eyes close and basked in serenity of darkness”.

“That was the last thing i remembered when i woke up the next day. I woke up to find myself on my bed with Nurse Sade,my mum’s friend telling my mum nothing was wrong with me and that i was gonna be okay”.

“I found my mum crying herself to be calm,my sisters eyes showed she had just finished her own round too.
The room tensed with pain and unexpressed anger.
I needed no one to tell me what had happened…We all swore to keep the secret and no one was going to know”.

Mr Suraja was taken to prison and sentenced for raping me,we moved into another community to start all over.

That gave me a little peace at least the culprit was behind bars and my life could begin its course without getting looks from all the neighbours.

You’d think maybe this was made me what i am today but Nope!

I got over the rape quickly i donno how but somehow i did.

It was the message we got 3 months later.

“Mrs Nkooro”, A voice said over the phone my mum held close to her tiny beautiful ears.

This is Sergeant from the 5th Division station.
This is to inform you that the Mr Suraja just died of HIV”,the woman on the other end said rather tightly.

At that moment i knew i was done for.

My mum kept shaking her head at me that it wasn’t possible and i should stay calm while she ended the call.

But all it did was explain my previous illness for the past month.

That moment i knew death was just around the corner and even if i could manage it who knows when it was gonna take me.

So tell me how else should I live my life??

Happy that soon i was gonna die.

Give attention to a person, open my heart fall in love and what??

Die!

So you know what, lemme be the sadist that everybody hates at least that way nobody comes near me.

Thank you!

.
.
.
.

The moment Sylvia said those words,i felt like I had just been slapped on the face.

I felt my heart constrict and my soul shatter.

I felt bad.

I felt soo bad that i started to cry.

But unlike me at that moment i had nothing to say. I knew she needed to hear me say something.

‘Its–“,I was gonna say something until she cut me off.

“Don’t you dare tell me it’s gonna be alright cos it’s not”.

“There is no cure Sandra,im gonna die.”

“Who knows if I’d even be that pilot i wanna be?”

“If I’d ever see my sister get married”.

“Everyday,i know that my mum and sister are praying their hearts out for a miracle and my mum spends almost everything she has on my drugs”

“And all i can do is just watch myself die”,she said inbetween sniffles.

“Nobody must know okay??,I don’t like pity.”

I didn’t know when i hugged her and we both started to cry.

But Ever since that day,we became closer, started living each day like there was no tommorow.
Went for hangouts, she started making friends but still we kept her secret and not even a soul heard.

They were all just surprised about the sudden change well maybe not 😂😂cos they never knew her before

We weren’t at the same university but we made great sacrifices to always see each other.

One day i hold so memorable in my heart.

It was a saturday morning and we decided to go on a picnic at a park.
We both got dressed up in flower print jumpsuits had our braids(yupppp proudly braid geng😋),packed high into a doughnut style, our lips smacked unrepentantly dripping with our 200 naira forever lipgloss😂😂..With shades.

A pair of smokching(smokinh and chingly) hot girls😉

We got to the park and set it up. From the rushly cooked friedrice, to our nakedly baked cake, chicken wings, bottle of cold wineee and most importantly water😂

We had the best fun of our lives.

Pictures of beautiful sorts, taken by a very nice and gentle passersby😏

To us laying back and watching the stars come out of their hiding.

We spent a whole day together being beautiful, free and Happy.

As we packed up,rolling the mat Sylvia smiled at me and said,

“Sandra, thank you for bringing my dead soul back to life and making me see I’m worth it!.When i die i want you to know i lived very happy ever since i met you.Promise me one thing, even when i die you won’t forget me”

“Pftt like I’d forget the zombie that welcomed me into the hostel😂😂”

Giving me a smack on my head and hug Sylvia said,”I love you idiot”

“I love you too my tiger”,and we raced out of the park

It’s been 5 years since that park incident and Today marks 1 year that She lefts us.

But still, she is with us😊 in our hearts and in the sky as the brightest star you see each night.

SYLVIA💜
