The heat duel
To have the tenacity of summer
One must be as rugged as the sun.
And as willy as the masquerade tree blowing hot air.
And must have reached an elastic limit.
Past the temperature of boiling water
With steam sharp enough to dissolve ice
Think of December as winter, and it’s irony
Of bleak skies and naked bodies
Open windows and cracked lips
One of the many mysteries
Of life and all it brings
Sharp and demanded to be felt, just like heat.
